The book, which is a memoir by Shilpa, has been creating a buzz among the readers for quite sometimes now. And this is natural; Shilpa Raj as an author is the first ever woman from the lower section of Indian society to have published a memoir! She has spent almost seven years of her life writing this book and now that the book has been published, she is very enthusiastic about it. The Elephant Chaser’s Daughter has been receiving very good response from the general readers as well as the book critics from different parts of the world. Today, I am telling you the reasons you must grab a copy and read this book. (I will be posting a book review later.)

An honest memoir: While most of the memoirs published these days are almost made-up, Shilpa Raj’s memoir is different in many ways. She has presented an honest account of everything which she writes. He personal life; her parents; her grandparents; her schooling; her vacations and even about highly personal things in her life!

Serious issues: This memoir is not only about Shilpa! She has made it a document which tells us about the problems which surface in the lives of people who belong to the underprivileged sections of our society. Shilpa uses the recollections of her father, mother and grandparents to present to us a horrible account of suffering. She also writes about the problems these people have to face in the hands of government employees and the police personnel.

Being a woman: Shilpa’s debut book The Elephant Chaser’s Daughter also raises questions on the society’s traditional habit of discrimination towards the women. Hounded outside the home and inside as well… where do the women belong? She poses some tough questions in front of the readers and eventually the intellectual people of the society. How long we will take to understand that men and women are equally important for a society to function smoothly?

And above all, Shilpa Raj has emerged as a hope for those many women from the lower sections of society who cannot afford to get education for various reasons. I will recommend the readers to get a copy of the book and support the cause Shilpa has taken up. The link to Amazon book store is above and for your convenience, I am posting it here as well.
